Stonebook private holdings ledger with dated marks

A private mark that gets rolled forward looks current. It is not. You enter the valuation. You enter the date. The pack prints both. If the date is old, the report says it is old.

What the ledger holds

What you enter:

  • The holding, the mark, and the date. No NAV is invented overnight.
  • A status of Current or Stale based on the date you typed, not on a model.
  • Date rule - a mark without a date does not print as current
  • Ledger plan - every private line with source, as-of date, and stale flag
  • Source and as-of date on every private line, so a missing date cannot print as current
  • Stale flags travel with the mark onto household packs and exam records. Nothing is interpolated.

How a stale mark stays stale

Every Private Holdings Ledger engagement follows the same three-phase structure, led by a senior operator at each stage:

  1. You type the mark. You type the date. If you leave last year's number in place, the pack still shows last year's date. We will not interpolate a bridge to today.
  2. James Calder: Private marks used to get quietly rolled forward. Command Stone prints the date we entered. If it is old, the report says it is old. That is the record I want in an exam.
  3. When the ledger is live, your ops lead gets a sheet of every private line with its as-of date and source. If a mark is old, the report says it is old. You can take that sheet into an exam or into next quarter's pack without rebuilding it.
If it is old, the report says it is old. That is the record I want in an exam. James Calder, Chief Investment Officer

Who keeps this ledger

Most firms that buy the Private Holdings Ledger already keep K-1s and manager letters in a shared drive. They are not looking for a valuation opinion. They need the date they entered to print next to the mark.

It is built for:

  • Ops teams that currently roll last year's private NAV into this quarter's pack
  • CIOs who want the examiner to see the as-of date, not a quietly updated figure
  • Technology and data teams that know what they want to build but need external validation and sequencing
  • Family offices that hold partnerships, co-invests, and manager marks beside the public book

We work closely with your internal engineering and data teams throughout - and have a strong track record of producing strategies that internal teams can actually execute, without the friction that comes from recommendations made without understanding the existing stack.
